Learn Manx Online – Level 1

Learn Manx, the language of the Isle of Man, a self-governing British Crown dependency in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland. It’s known for its rugged coastline, medieval castles and rural landscape, rising to a mountainous center.

Manx is a Celtic language,  closely related to the Irish of Ulster and Scottish Gaelic of Galloway and was brought to the Isle of Man by settlers from those areas during the 5th century AD.

Manx was unofficially declared extinct 1974, after the passing away of the last native speaker. It was then officially declared extinct by UNESCO in 2009.
