18 Sep English Online Course (Scottish) – Level 1
In the land famous for kilts, bagpipes, Scotch whisky and golf, the variety of English spoken here is known as Scottish English. Having distinct pronunciation, grammar and expressions and distinctive vocabulary, Scottish English results from language contact between Scots and the Standard English of England after the 17th century.
Examples of usage of the language includes, “Ach, away ye go!” meaning “Oh, I don’t believe you” and “That’s outwith my remit” meaning “It’s not part of my job to do that”. Learn and have fun with the language. Or as the Scots say, “Guid luck!”
